Summer 2019 Training programme at Saltford

 

 

This year we are running lots of great courses to get involved in this summer:

 

 

  • Adult beginners kayak:  Start from scratch and maybe even pass the BC Paddle Discover award 
  • Kids beginners kayak:  Same course content as for adults, but taylored towards the younger paddler (8~14years).
  • Adult improvers kakak : Build on your paddling abilities leading to the BC Paddle Explore award 
  • Kids Intermediate kakak : Again same course content as the adult course, but taylored towards the younger paddler (8~14years).
  • Open Canoe : Start from the basics (Paddle Discover) up to the Paddle Explore Award
  • Paddle Start : A weekly session for anyone just wanting to sit in a boat on the water and try out the sport, no commitment just fun.
  • Social/General paddle : Just turn up pop your boat in the water and go for a paddle (no booking needed)

Course information

Adults/Kids Beginner Kayak: 

If you want to get into kayaking, this course is perfect!
You will learn the fundamentals of kayaking, having fun safely on the water.
The course runs over 7 weeks and can lead to the BC Paddle Discover award (previously taught as the as BC 1*)
 
The childrens course has the same content and qualification, but is taylored to the younger paddler. Minimum age is 8 years.
 
6 Weeks. Starting on 8th May.
Cost: £45 (+ equiment hire if needed)
 
 

Kayak improver Adult

This is great for people who have already have a grasp of basic kayaking skills and want to progress further.
It recognises and builds on a paddler’s understanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact and their ability to control movement using and building on fundamental skills.
The 7 weeks of coaching provide you with the skills needed to build on your sheltered water paddler abilities and includes an optional BC Paddle Explore (as was previously taught as part of BC 2*) kayak assessment, 
 
The childrens course has the same content and qualification, but is taylored to the younger paddler. Minimum age is 8 years.
 
Cost: £50 (+ equiment hire if needed)
7 Weeks . Sarting on 1st May.
 
 

Canoeing: 

For those who prefer or would like to try using a single blade. 
No prior knowledge of paddline needed, just a want-to attiude. Starting with the basics of the paddle, boat and paddler the course introduces and then builds on the basic strokes and skills needed to have you gliding through the water.
The course is 7 weeks long, leading to an assesment for either a BC Paddle Discover or the higher BC Paddle Explore award the end.
 
Cost: £50 (+ equiment hire if needed)
7 Weeks . Sarting on 1st May.
 

Equipment Hire:

If you don't already own a boat or equipment (BA, Paddle, Helmet, etc), you can hire them.
The cost is :
 
+ £35 for the 7 week courses 
+ £30 for the 6 week.
 
ie: a 7 week course including hire will be £85, and a 6 week course will be £75.
 

Paddle start:

A 3 week rolling programme, covering the basics of kayaking, canoeing and standup paddle-boarding (SUP)
starting on 16th May.
 
Turn up, pay up, have fun and be prepared to get wet.
 
 £5/session (no advanced booking needed, pay on the day)
 
 

Booking:

Courses are open to all members. You can enrol as a member and join a course at the same as booking a course
