Summer 2018 Training programme at Saltford

 

 

This year we are running lots of great courses to get involved in this summer:

 

We are offering

 

  • Intro to paddling: For anyone just wanting to sit in a boat on the water and try out the sport, no commitment just fun.
  • Beginners kayak:  Start from scratch and maybe even pass the BCU 1* paddling award
  • Intermediate kakak : Build on your paddling abilities leading to the BCU 2* award
  • Open canoe : From the basics to BCU 2* assesment
  • General paddle : Just turn up pop your boat in the water and go for a paddle
  •  

Course information

 

Introduction to Paddling:

A 3 week rolling programme, covering the basics of kayaking, canoeing and standup paddle-boarding (SUP)
starting on 16th May.
 
Turn up, pay up, have fun and be prepared to get wet.
 
 £5/session
 

Adults/Kids Beginner Kayak: 

Cost: £35
 
If you want to get into kayaking, this course is perfect!
You will learn the fundamentals of kayaking, having fun safely on the water.
The course runs over 5 weeks with an optional BCU 1* assessment at the end.
 
The childrens course has the same content and qualification, but is taylored to the younger paddler. Minimum age is 8 years.
 
Starting on 9th May.
 
 
 

Adults/Kids Intermediate Kayak:

Cost: £40
 
This is great for people who have already have a grasp of basic kayaking skills and want to progress further.
It recognises and builds on a paddler’s understanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact and their ability to control movement using and building on fundamental skills.
The 6 weeks of coaching provide you with the skills needed to build on your sheltered water paddler abilities and includes an optional BCU 2* kayak assessment, 
 
The childrens course has the same content and qualification, but is taylored to the younger paddler. Minimum age is 8 years.
 
Starts on the 2nd May.
 
 
 

Canoeing: 

Cost: £40
 
For those who prefer or would like to try using a single blade. 
No prior knowledge of paddline needed, just a want-to attiude. Starting with the basics of the paddle, boat and paddler the course introduces and then builds on the basic strokes and skills needed to have you gliding through the water.
The course is 6 weeks long, with a BCU 2* canoe assesment, assessment at the end.
 
Starts on the 2nd May.
 
 

Equipment Hire:

If you don't already own a boat or equipment, you can hire
them. Boat hire costs £5 per session with buoyancy aid,
helmet, spraydeck and paddle included.

Courses are open to all members. You can enrol as a member and join a course at the same time.
